7 years in Thailand
This is our 7th year in the mission field… Many have asked us “What’s next?” What are our plans? We thank God for the care and love from these questions. 7 years is a milestone and a juncture to evaluate.
BDR also celebrated 10 years of ministry!
We didn’t set out to serve in the mission field 7 years ago thinking, “Hey we’ll just commit for 7 years and see how again!”. It was purely a response to what God put in our hearts. At this point, even as we face harsh criticism from some, we are sure that our time in the mission field is not up yet.
God’s Assurance
7 years ago when we were preparing to head into the mission field, Jason’s biggest worry was about his parents. God assured him from a passage from 1 Kings where Elijah called Elisha. When we were back in Singapore in Feb for Chinese New Year, Jason received God’s assurance for one of the biggest challenges that he faces, which is having good friendships on the field. God assured Jason through Proverbs 17:17 that God brings friends and brothers alongside him even as he serves overseas. To Jason this is enough to give God his YES again.
In the same set of prophetic cards, Sheryl was shocked to see her life-calling passage. God used Isaiah 61 to call her into the mission field and uses the same passage to confirm the calling even after 7 years.
Do we see ourselves in the mission field for the next 7 years? Yes, we do. We know that we are stepping into the next season of our ministry, both in leadership and influence. Wherever God leads, as long as we do God’s work in God’s way, we know that we will never lack God’s supply.
2025
Sheryl will continue to lead our community centre ministry while it’s finally time for Jason to take his long-awaited break! It’s Jason’s 10th year in full-time ministry and his sabbatical plans went up to smokes quite a few times in the past two years. With the full blessing of significant stakeholders, he will be on a sabbatical from April to September 2025.
Some highlights of the year include:
- The continued joy and privilege of leading our Baan Dem Rak staff team in a year of “Increase and Fruitfulness in God’s time”
- April: Our annual vacation
- June: Joining our home church’s zonal camp in JB
- October: YWAM Thailand Conference in Phang Nga
- December: BDR Christmas Outreach Carnival
