Seasons are for trees to grow – Goh into the Nations! October 2019

In 3 weeks time, we will be in our outreach phase for DTS. We’ll be serving with YWAM Penang for 1 month before heading to southern and central Thailand for another 1 month. Preparation had begun and the students have been very excited, putting in their best to prepare themselves in many aspects including prayer, performances, logistics…  Pray for us as we get ready to love those we meet in Malaysia and Thailand!

This month flew by so quickly. Besides daily classes with the students, we also went for weekly outreaches to local slums, juvenile detention center, and the red light district. Through these local outreaches, the students are able to put into practice what they learn in the classroom and catch God’s heart for the world right in their backyard. We are very encouraged that this group of students are really enthusiastic about reaching out and can’t wait to share God’s love with people they meet.

After 10 weeks of lectures, we were all very happy to head to the great outdoors for our annual DTS hike! Even though we had to start our 2 hour drive at 4am to Thailand’s highest mountain, it was so worth it. As a school, we enjoyed the view, the cold (10 degrees Celsius), the beautiful nature, and the friendships we have. What a wonderful Saturday we had at Doi Inthanon.

For us, one special opportunity we had is to lead worship for our monthly YWAM Chiang Mai staff meeting. What made it more special was that every DTS student was involved in the worship band and technical crew. It was a really fun and enriching time with our students.

It’s our fifth month here in Thailand. Throughout this time, we have been sharing much about our victories and joys, our ministry experiences and fruit. However, we also face many challenges and emotions that are often too complicated and inappropriate to share fully on this public platform. To just share a little bit, it’s been difficult for us to build strong, deep and nourishing relationships as we live in a cross-cultural setting. The loneliness that missionaries often speak of is becoming so real for us. Hence, even though our newsletters have been quite positive, in some areas we are really struggling to trust God and we need your continued prayer covering over us to stay steadfast in His calling.

Amidst all of these, we’re also thankful for fellow Singaporean friends and YWAMers who visit us in Chiang Mai! Over one weekend, we got to host Rachel, our dear friend from our uni days serving in Cru, and now a fellow YWAMer in Thailand. We also had a mini gathering with some Singaporean friends to enjoy home cooked Singaporean food together.

Please pray for us:

  1. Emotional and physical strength to be present and available for God to use us
  2. Wisdom and humility as we serve in a cross-cultural setting
  3. Provision of spiritual parents and siblings for us here in Thailand
