BDR Mission Trips Update June – August 2024

Dear friends and donors,

Thank you for giving generously to our mission trips! In June we raised funds for 3 mission trips, with a budget of 2,400 SGD. By God’s provision, we received 3,900 SGD in total! We could set aside the extra funds for the next mission trip to Mae Sot in November, God is so good. We would like to share with you what God did in our mission trips, and give glory to God!

Chiang Dao (22nd to 24th June)

We spent time with the local church, teaching kids about our worth in God, and encouraging the church members through a song item and testimony.

We also went home visiting, encouraging the families that the church reaches out to. We visited a family of 2, a couple who are both speech-impaired and deaf. Their love for Jesus really amazes us, and despite their challenges they choose to trust in God. Their disabilities doesn’t stop them from joining in the joy of worshipping God, and they sit through an hour long of preaching despite almost not understanding anything!

We also visited the pastor’s home and mushroom farm, where we helped them to harvest 66kg of oyster mushroom, process it, and pack it into 5kg bags. The local pastor uses the mushroom farm to bring income to help sustain the church. Thank God for the fruitfulness and provision!

Mae Sot (1st – 3rd July)

Mae Sot is a district that shares a border with Burma, and in this trip we serve with a local church run by refugees. We did a kids programme for almost 300 kids, teaching them about the Joy of the Lord, and sharing the Gospel with them. In the above photos, we went to the supermarket to buy snacks and gifts for the kids, and led a craft to teach the kids about God’s joy!

We also visited a few homes, and listened to their stories of fleeing and finding refuge in Thailand, and shared the message of God’s love with them. Many of these refugees have family back in Burma, some are fighting the war, and some are fleeing from conscription. They love their country and long to return one day, but in current civil war, they are trusting God for protection and a new lease of life in Thailand. We prayed for the safety of their family members back at home as well.

On the last day of our trip, we visited another church that is also reaching out to the refugees. We ran a hygiene training for the church members and also visited the refugee settlement that the local pastor built. It’s meant to be a temporary housing for new refugees, and when they successfully find a job and become more stable, they will find their own rented space and build their own straw house. It’s such a meaningful project that helps new refugees find a shelter over their heads during the first few months of entering Thailand. We also met families that have successfully moved out of the temporary housing, and are now new believers and serving in the local church. We are excited to explore more opportunities to partner with this pastor in building more temporary housing!

Ubon Ratchathani (29th July – 2nd August)

Ubon Ratchathani is a province in the north-eastern region of Thailand, sharing a border with both Cambodia and Laos. We were at the YWAM base over there for 1 week to be translators for the speaker for their Discipleship Training School (DTS). During this week, we saw how the Lord moved in the hearts of the students, convicting them to make Jesus their Lord, surrendering their idols, taking up the cross, and following Him. We loved this opportunity to serve the broader family of YWAM in Thailand!

Besides translation work, we also led worship for the base, MC-ed for their International Night, and made delicious Ba Chor Mee for everyone! International Night is an event frequently held during DTS to celebrate the cultures that God created. We had more than 10 nationalities present and each country did a cultural presentation. We love how YWAM is so diverse and multi-cultural, and it was a beautiful reflection of Revelations 7:9, seeing all nations coming to praise God together.

Co-partners in Christ

Thank you for partnering us in these 3 mission trips. Through you, on top of the 2,400 SGD, we raised an additional 1,500 SGD that we can use for our next few mission trips to Maesot. With your generous and obedient giving, we could be a blessing to the nations and spread God’s love all around Thailand. We thank God for how He used our team to love and to share the Gospel. Even more so, we are thankful that our team of Thai staff are catching God’s heart for missions as well. From the bottom of our hearts, we want to appreciate you for helping us to mobilize Thai people for missions. We want to see Thais reaching out to Thais!

May our good Lord bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work (2 Cor 9:8).
